What I Love About Corefit

What I Love About Corefit

I was telling my friend, Rachel, that I was considering taking a course to obtain my certification in personal training. She encouraged me to come with her to her gym. Uhh… I’m a personal trainer want-to-be and I’ve never worked out in a gym. Awkward.

I agreed to come with my friend to a class, but I was nervous. At that time in my life, I never would have set foot in a gym without a wingman and it still impresses me when other people do it! It’s stressful to walk into any new place, but gyms are especially stressful for a few reasons: they are full of very fit, attractive, disciplined, capable people. They are full of confusing machines, unfamiliar equipment, and specific terminology that many people don’t know. They have specific protocols for cleaning equipment. The exercise moves themselves can feel embarrassing. People make weird noises and weird faces when they workout. It feels embarrassing, even shameful, to let people know that you’re out of shape.

Corefit felt less intimidating right away because the gym was just one room. There were no giant machines. It was all women, and there were at most fourteen of them, so they knew each other. The instructor (coach) was also the owner, Cory, and she was kind and motivating. The workout was hard, but I left feeling strong.

Corefit has become a place that I cherish because women come there to heal in so many ways: Rehabbing injuries, reclaiming themselves after losing their identity in motherhood, sweating out job stress, learning self-care, getting stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Men deserve a place to workout, but women also need a place to workout where there are no men. At Corefit, we are coaching strength and health, not shape or size. The culture is supportive and also challenging. Women work hard and treat each other well.

If you are a woman local to North Canton and you’re looking for a place to fit in and get healthy, I encourage you to be brave enough to be a beginner. A beginner has the most opportunity to grow. 💙
